Individual and corporate entities, especially those that are not-for-profit, will often require financial assistance from well-wishers to stay afloat. To request these funds, the affected entities have to draft a ‘sponsorship letter.’ Many people, unfortunately, lack the expertise necessary to draft a letter of this kind. That is why a sample sponsorship to that effect is by all means called for.
This letter simplifies issues by providing a framework against which the letter is subsequently drafted.
What to Include in a Sponsorship Letter
- The identity of the organization that seeks financial assistance
- The organization whose assistance is sought for the money
- How much money the organization seeks to raise in total
- The course for which the money is asked for
- Deadlines or other terms of references that may apply
How To Write a Sponsorship Letter
Step 1: research the organization of interest
Start off by researching the organization of interest. While at it, get to know about their ethos, core values, valuation, and profitability. These considerations will help you to determine whether indeed these organizations may come to your rescue.
Step 2: highlight and explain your course
Now dedicate some two or three paragraphs to highlight and explain the course for which you intend to raise the money. This will definitely give the reader a clue on how their money is to be used and whether indeed that course lines up with their core values or not.
Step 3: state the figure you are looking for
Move on to state the exact figure you are looking for. If possible, you should also break down the figure to the finest details. The object of this is to let the sponsor know how exactly their money is going to be utilized after they have donated it.
Step 4: showcase the modes of receiving payments
In what ways are you willing to accept the payments? Is it by mobile money transfer, online payments, cards, check or cash? Alternatively, could it be that you want them to come over for a fundraiser? In the case of a fundraiser, spell out exactly when and where the same shall be held.
Step 5: close it with a deadline
Lastly, close the appeal with a deadline. Obviously, any campaign has to happen within a realistic time-frame. It just cannot go on indefinitely. The deadline has to be within a comfortable duration to give all the stakeholders’ ample time to look for the money and remit the same.
