Excuse letter for not attending an event

An invite writes an excuse letter for failing to attend an event to the person/ organization inviting them for the specific event, informing them that you are unable to attend the event and the reasons why.

You will agree with me that we do receive invitations either formal or informal to attend specific events.

These events range from meetings, interviews, weddings, anniversaries, exhibitions, etc. Though you desire to attend any event you have been to, at times, it is not possible to attend. To maintain good relationships and act professionally, it is ethical to write an excuse letter to express your regret for not attending the event.

It is essential to make sure that you have communicated your regrets in the best way possible and the right format. This can be easily done by using sample excuse letters. These letters will inform you of the language to use and the format.

Dear Mr. Jelli,

Good day, sir. Allow me to pass my sincere apologies for missing your graduation ceremony at the University of Atlanta Georgia. I had planned to attend the ceremony, but unfortunately, our boss summoned us for a crisis meeting following a significant drop in the last quarter’s sales.

I understand how you felt when I was not available on your special day. Please accept my apologies. I’ve planned to visit the coming weekend to make up for missing the graduation ceremony.

Once more I’m sorry for the incident. I remain one of your cherished friends.

Thank you for your understanding.

Apology letter for not attending a church meeting

An apology letter for missing a church meeting serves to relay apologies for missing the meeting. Religious activities are part of our everyday activities. The sessions are organized to deliberate on various issues in the church and to plan church events. When writing the apology letter, it’s important to offer a valid reason for missing the meeting.

Dear Pastor Jeremy,

I take this chance to express my regrets for missing the past two leaders meetings at church. Though I have always desired to attend the meetings, I couldn’t do so due to a yearly audit at our company.

For the last one month and half we have been preparing for our yearly audit, and thankfully we have completed the preparations, and our auditors visited us last week.

I remain a committed member of the leadership team, and I promise I’ll always be available for the oncoming meetings. I’ll visit you tomorrow at 5.00pm for a brief of the proceedings of the earlier meetings.

Once more, accept my heartfelt apologies.

Yours Truly,

James Marvin

When you’re invited to a birthday party, and you fail to attend, you can send an apology in the form of a letter. Your letter will inform the recipient of your wish to participate in the event and why you won’t make it to the event.

Dear Josh,

I take this opportunity to appreciate you for inviting you to your birthday party this coming event. I’ll travel to attend my cousin’s wedding in Chicago with the rest of my family members.

Please accept my apologies. We’ve been longtime buddies, and I would have attended the party were it not for the wedding. I’ll invite you for dinner once I’m back to make up for the event.

I wish you happy moments on your great day.

With much love,

Jessica

Sub: Apology for not attending the seminar

Dear Mr. Tims,

I thank you for picking me to participate in the health and safety seminar at Hotel Dolphins at the end of the week. I was so excited to be part of the attendees.

Unfortunately, I visited my doctor yesterday following two days of severe joint pain, and the doctor recommended 5 days rest to fasten healing of my dislocated joint.

You can extend this opportunity to any other colleague.

Thank you for believing in me.

Yours sincerely,

Jeff White

Good reasons for not attending an event

When you’ve received an invitation to an event, and you can’t attend, you must give a valid reason for not attending the event. These are some reasons that can make one miss an event.

Sickness

You may be unwell, or a close relative could be sick. In such circumstances, you can use this as an excuse for missing an event.

Car broke down

You can fail to attend an event if your car breakdown while on the journey. If you experience a flat tire, the same can happen.

Emergencies at work

You may have planned to attend an event then suddenly your boss calls for an urgent meeting or you’re assigned an urgent task.

A more important event

You may have the invitation to attend several events on the same day. If you have a more important event to attend, you can use this as an excuse for not attending another event.

Forgetfulness

It’s possible to get an invitation for an event yet miss out because of forgetfulness. If you realize you forget to attend an event, you can use this as the excuse why you missed the event.

Classes/exams

If you’re a student, you can miss an event because of impending exams/studies or any other academic commitment.

Traveling

If someone has invited you for an event and you’ll be traveling out of town, this can be a valid reason for missing the event.

Your pet’s sickness

You may miss an event if your pet is unwell or lost.

Tips for writing an excuse letter for work

  • Be short and to the point. When writing an excuse letter for work avoid been too wordy. For example, you can state why you will miss work and for how long.
  • When writing the letter, offer to make up for the lost time. If you were working on a project, you could offer extra hours to work on the project.
  • Submit the letter immediately. The letter should be submitted as soon as possible to avoid any disciplinary actions taken against you.
  • If possible explain why you will be absent. This can help the recipient to understand why you missed the event.
  • Use the format used when writing business letters. This is important since it shows professionalism.
