Some of the major areas you must look at before signing a contract include:

Service Offered – The contract should clearly define the service it provides to you. If any of those services are laid out, you have every right to file a lawsuit. If your event planner is outsourcing its services from some other vendor, it should be mentioned clearly in the contract along with the vendor details like who the vendors are and what will their role be in event planning.

Cancellation Clause – It’s not always necessary that the event will go as planned. So the cancellation clause plays a very important role if the host cancels the contract. It should clearly state that your company will get paid for the work you have done no matter what happens.

Payment – Do mention all the payment details in your event planner contract. Specify the estimated budget so that your client gets a rough idea of how much it is going to cost.

Don’t worry about mentioning the exact amount because everything does not go as planned, your host may cancel few of the activities, so it’s important that you do a proper assessment at your end to avoid any conflict of interest with your client.

Indemnification Clause – Do not forget to put an indemnification clause in your contact. It will protect you and your event planning firm from any legal action due to the negligence of your client.

The client will not hold you responsible for any kind of injuries, damages, and loss that happen during the event and vice versa.

Termination Clause – The termination clause provides your firm from cancelling the services due to some unavoidable circumstances (extreme weather conditions for example).

It will give you the authority to determine whether the cancellation is temporary or it can be resumed.
