Apology Letter From Teacher to Principal

During our years in school as students, many of us were made to write apology letters to our teachers for various reasons. Reasons ranged from general misconduct to absenteeism and on more extreme cases, failure to attain certain pass marks. It never crossed our minds that these very teachers that made us write apology letters would once in a while be victims themselves. Unknown to us, teachers write apology letters more times than we can imagine and more often than not, these letters are addressed to the principal. Some of the main reasons for writing an apology letter from teacher to principal include: lateness in assuming lessons, chronic absenteeism, professional misconduct and any other behavior that is considered morally unacceptable or one that goes against the professional teaching ethics.

Writing this letter enables the teacher to explain themselves and possibly ask for a second chance to make things, moving forward. And because these are not letters teachers get to write on daily basis, there is always a need to keep a sample apology letter from teacher to principal so as to make things easier whenever the need for writing such a letter arises. The following is a sample apology letter from a teacher to a principal; just so we can paint a clearer picture.

How To Write An Apology Letter As A Teacher

Writing an apology letter as a teacher is more or less the same as a typical employee writing their apology letter to their boss. The content, format and the language are nearly the same. The language should be formal at all cost as the relationship that exists between these two entities is also formal.

Additionally, the apology letter should contain three basic elements;

  • A sincere acceptance of the fact that you held yourself unprofessionally.
  • A valid reason as to why you had to behave like you did.
  • A message of your resolve to improve and further work for the betterment of the institution or company.
  • A message of optimism and positivity from the addressee [in our case, the principal].

Last but not least, it is important to always keep a template ready whenever the need to write such a letter arises because the format, tone and content is especially important.
